Ozone generation, accumulation and the effects on traditional plastics and bioplastics.
Ozone can oxidise plastics leading to changes in the characteristic properties. Samples of traditional plastics and bioplastics were exposed to ozone in a laboratory setting and analysed in terms of strength, colour and surface properties.
The ozone was produced in the laboratory using both a lab- scale ozoniser and a commercial ozone generator. Both devices use an electrical discharge to convert oxygen into ozone. The levels of ozone produced were quantified using redox titration.
In addition, a commercial ozone detector was used to measure the levels of ozone accumulation within the school building, particularly in vicinity of high-temperature printers.
